The Banarasi Gallery

Woven in Banaras. Chosen for the best!

Every piece here was picked by hand for its weave, its colour and the finish of its pallu. Kadwa, tissue, tanchoi and kora, each telling the story of Varanasi in silk and zari.

Kadwa: each motif woven on its own

Chapter I · The weave

Kadwa: each motif woven on its own

In a Kadwa weave every motif is worked with its own threads. Nothing is cut away afterwards, so the back is as clean as the front. It is the slower, more exacting way to make a Banarasi.

The collection

Banarasi silk, the way a connoisseur buys it

For close to four decades Chennai has come to Man Mandir for a Banarasi it will keep. We look for the details that separate a good saree from a great one: how densely the zari is woven, how cleanly the motifs sit, how the pallu falls.

Not sure which weave suits the occasion? Visit the gallery at 32 Khader Nawaz Khan Road, Nungambakkam, open all seven days, or call 044 2833 3360.

When will my saree be dispatched?

Orders are dispatched the next day. We do not dispatch on Sundays, so orders placed on a Saturday leave on Monday.

Is the blouse piece included?

Most of our sarees come with an unstitched blouse piece. You will find the blouse details listed on each piece's page.

What if the colour looks different in person?

Silk and zari catch light differently from a screen. If the piece is not right for you, you can return it within 7 days, unworn and with tags intact.

Can I see a piece before I buy?

Of course. Visit the gallery at 32 Khader Nawaz Khan Road, Nungambakkam, open all seven days from 10.30am to 8.30pm, or call us on 044 2833 3360.
